Industry Facts

  • Each year over 33,000 people in Australia die from sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).
  • This is different from a heart attack… where symptoms often present with shortness of breath, chest pain and feeling of sweatiness.
  • SCA occurs without any symptoms.. the person just collapses. An SCA occurs when the heart goes into VT, Ventricular Tachycardia….(rapid heart rate.. heart beats too quickly and struggles to go back into normal heart rhythm) or VF Ventricular Fibrillation ( the heart goes into chaotic electrical activity… often described as a “bag of wriggling worms) If you don’t correct VT or VF, by using a cardiac defibrliiator.. the patient will die. CPR assists in keeping the heart muscle pumping blood and oxygen around the body… but it’s the defibrillator… a reset button that corrects the irregularity into sinus rhythm.
  • An Ambulance average response time is 19-30 minutes in metropolitan areas (even though they target for 8 minutes)
  • Outside Metropolitan areas and response time is much longer
  • Heart Foundation statistics ….male over 40 years old has a 1 in 2 chances of having a heart attack by the age of 70 years old,
  • Female over 40 years old has a 1 in 3 chances of having a heart attack by the age of 70.
  • According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics … more people die from SCA than people that die on the roads, from fires, breast cancer, bowel cancer, skin cancer and prostate cancer all combined.
  • Thanks to modern technology it has enabled us to save a life.. simply by pressing a button on a defibrillator machine.
  • The machine speaks to you and tells you what to do. It will tell you when to shock the patient only if you need to.
  • You don’t have to be trained in first aid to use it
  • If you have access to a cardiac defibrillator within 5 minutes you have an 80% chance of survival.

We sell a number of Defib brands … as each brand have different values and they are all at various price points.
